My illustration used for openDemocracy depicting Bloody January in Kazakhstan, bloodshed and violence on the streets of Almaty and other cities, hundreds died. Almaty, the country’s commercial and cultural capital, during the protests became an epicentre of violence. The name ‘Almaty’ is derived from the Kazakh word for 'apple' (alma/алма). This illustration became viral during the days of the January tragedy.

The March cover of ELLE Kazakhstan is inspired by this artwork.
